The B+W UV-Haze XS-PRO Digital Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and to which many colour films react with a blue cast. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes, by the sea and in regions with very clean air. Photographs gain brilliance and blue casts are avoided. Because the glass is colourless, colour rendition is not altered and no increase in exposure is required. That makes a UV Filter suitable for protection of the lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for analogue colour and black-and-white as well as digital photography.
B+W XS-Pro Digital Filters main features
Extra-Slim Mounting Rings that Eliminate Problems Associated with SLR Wide-angle and Telephoto Imaging
B+W XS-Pro filters employ a newly developed mounting ring that is especially suited for SLRs with wide angle and zoom lenses. The extremely thin design prevents the mounting ring from vignetting in even the widest shots. B+W XS-Pro Digital Filters have front threads for mounting additional accessories such as filters, screw on shades and lens covers. XS-Pro filter rings are made of brass and are matt black to prevent reflections.
Schneider’s Proprietary MRC Coating
MRC refers to the unique Multi Resistant Coating developed by Schneider-Kreuznach, which comes as standard on B+W XS-Pro Digital Filters. It provides perfect anti-reflection, brilliant colours and high contrast. Only Schneider lenses and B+W filters are protected by this extremely resistant multi-layer broadband coating (eight layers on both sides). In addition, the scratch-resistant, water- and dirt- repellent outer layer makes it easier to clean the glass surface. Due to its low residual reflection (0.5%) MRC prevents ghosting or double images, which can be caused by return reflections from sensors.
B+W's MRC Nano coating takes filter production to a new level
It features improved cleaning capabilities. Water droplets will bead up better and be easier to remove from the filter. This filter is also scratch-resistant. Single coating is applied to one layer on each glass surface. This improves light transmission from about 92% (uncoated glass) to about 98%. It also has certain anti-reflective properties that help prevent against ghosting and internal flaring.
Advantages of B+W XS-PRO MRC UV Filter over B+W F-PRO MRC UV Filter
XS-PRO has a slim mount/thin frame (3mm) with front thread, whereas F-PRO has a frame thickness of 5mm
XS-PRO’s extra-slim mount ring eradicates issues linked with telephoto imaging and DSLR ultra-wide-angle shooting. Even in the ultra-wide-angle shots, this incredibly slim design prevents vignetting.
Even at 3mm frame thickness, XS-PRO filters also engineered with front thread so as additional lens accessories such as screw on hoods, lens caps or filters can be mounted on.
XS-PRO utilizes the thinnest, precisely ground Schott optical glass, 1.2mm for XS-PRO vs. 1.8mm for F-PRO
Less vignetting effect on the final image quality observed on the thinner optical glass. Using a filter (even the best ever thin filter) equals to introducing an additional optical elements for the lens. XS-PRO filter employ a new highly optical technology which balance the optical image quality and glass thickness, making it the slimmest optical glass in the market thus far, and also a seamless, perfect parallel to the surface of the filter.
